The Homiest Home

When things are shaky outside

You are always welcome here

I’ll wrap you up and smile big—

My favorite thing is to have you near

But shakiness comes inside, too

It can make a home in our souls

And that’s how we know that home

Lacks what we need to be whole

Our home is a homey one

Full of love and fun

We try to keep it that way

The work is never done

To keep it homey we have to be honest

We have to be strong and forgive

We have to daily look inside ourselves

Where so much yucky stuff lives

Did you know Jesus battled that stuff for us?

To do it he left his own home!

He endured the yuck so we could be forgiven

He sent a Helper so we wouldn’t be alone

The Helper helps the Forgiven battle the yuck

And show the world Who He is

Slowly He teaches us what it means

To surrender our will for His

This work can make us tired

But we must never give up

Because the work is purposed for good

And points to better stuff!

Did you know our homey home

Offers just a glimmer?

It teaches us of something better—

A promise that can simmer

Then boil over in delight

And spill into the lives we live

The promise is a better home than this

The Homiest Home God can give!

There tears can’t come, nothing will shake,

He’ll wrap us up and smile big

Our favorite thing will be to have Him near

We’ll drink it up with a satisfied swig

What a joy it will be to live there with Him,

Finally free of the yuck!

We’ll be so glad we followed him—

We’ll know it pointed to better stuff

Because all of that following

Somehow turned into glory

Somehow the little things we offered

Gave more shine to His story!

So let’s enjoy our home, little one,

And let’s trust Him in all that we do

The Homiest Home awaits those who follow Him

And it’s goodness is truer than true
